Along the Creek is the personal family history blog of Jordyn Porter-Meche. Jordyn (they/them) is a 34 year old family historian based in Frederick, Maryland.

They also lead the monthly Front Porch Talks – KY German Ancestors discussion group offered by the Kentucky Genealogical Society since May 2025; they are a member of the Lineage Committee, also at the Kentucky Genealogical Society, since March 2024; and they are the County Coordinator for the Wayne County KYGenWeb Project since January 2024 and the Greene County INGenWeb Project since February 2020. Jordyn is also active on WikiTree, where they coordinate the Indiana Project and lead the Michael Family of Old Rowan County Study & the Beech Creek Township, Greene, Indiana One Place Study. Previously, they co-led the monthly Genealogy Discussion Group held at the Monroe County History Center (MCHC) in Bloomington, Indiana from October 2024-April 2025 and were a Research Library Volunteer at MCHC from June 2015-March 2017. They are a graduate of the GenProof 93 (Spring 2025) study group and have taken methodology courses offered at the International Institute of Genealogical Studies.
The name Along the Creek was inspired by the various creeks that Jordyn’s Michael family ancestors lived on – Reedy Creek in Davidson County, North Carolina; Naked Creek in Ashe County, North Carolina; Russell Creek in Adair County, Kentucky; Bear Creek in Fayette County, Illinois; and Richland Creek in Greene County, Indiana – as well as the creek Jordyn grew up on, Jackson Creek in Monroe County, Indiana. As the Michaels are Jordyn’s favorite family to research and Jackson Creek is their favorite spot to visit, a name that honors both seemed fitting.
